My name is Missy Henrich and I am originally from TN. I have been married to my husband, Todd, for 25 years, and we have two wonderful girls. Katie is 17 years old and Lucy is 16 years old. Both attend Johns Creek High School. Our third child is a chocolate lab named Nessie. Nessie is a 3 year old sweetheart!
I have my B.S. in Elementary Education from Belmont University and my M.Ed. in Comprehensive Special Education from Vanderbilt University. Early in my career, I taught in a Communication Behavior Intervention Program that focused on children with autism. Then, I moved on to teach 4 year olds with various exceptionalities at the Susan Gray School on Vanderbilt’s campus. While working at the Susan Gray School I was given the opportunity to be part of an inclusion grant. I had the privilege of teaching in a pilot inclusion program between Vanderbilt University and Metro Nashville School System. The program was extremely successful and became some of the foundational groundwork for inclusive classrooms. Following this project, I took a small break from teaching which turned into a 10 year hiatus!
In December of 2007, our family moved to Johns Creek. To help my girls get acclimated to their new school, I began volunteering in the Media Center. Right away, I felt welcome at Barnwell. Through the course of volunteering, the administration learned I was a special education teacher. In August of 2009, I was asked to join the Barnwell family as the kindergarten special education teacher. I taught KSE for three fun years and then moved to the preschool special education classroom. This is my sixth year to be in PSE. Each day in the PSE classroom is a new adventure. We work hard, play hard, and have lots of fun!
